Large parts of Latin America are truely stunning, and the landscapes are some of the most beautiful on earth. Places such as Chile’s Torres Del Paine National Park are excellent for trekking, while others, such as Bolivia’s Uyuni salt flats and Brazil’s Lencois Marahenses are some suitable for simply marvelling at.Chile’s Torres del Paine, and the neaighbouring area around Argentina’s El Chalten, offer some of the best trekking in Latin America. Torres del Paine is remote (it takes 5 hours overland travel from the airport at Punta Arenas), but the long journey is well worth it for trekking enthusiasts (and those who love beautiful landscapes). Turquoise and green coloured lakes mix with huge glacier topped granite massifs to create on of the most spectacularly dramatic landscapes in all of South America.
Bolivia’s Uyuni Salt Flats is an equally marvellous landscape. Crossing the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt lake it the world, is one of the most beautiful journeys in all of South America. Bright blue skies contrast starkly with the blinding white salt plains, while in the distance one finds towering volcanoes and multicoloured lakes.
In Brazil, the beautiful landscapes of Lencois Maranhenses National Park consist of 150,000 hectares of beaches and shifting sand dunes dotted with sparkling freshwater lagoons. The views of Sand dunes stretching from horizon to horizon and the deserted beaches are quite spectacular. Adventure tours in dune buggies are becoming popular in this truely spectacular landscape.
These would be my top three most beautiful landscapes in South America, but there’s plenty of other spectacular landscapes in addition, such as Mexico’s Copper Canyon, which offers beautiful train journeys. Guatemala’s Lake Atitlan is great for relaxing and visiting indigenous communities. Venezuela’s Tepui area (aka “The Lost World”) and Mount Roraima offer dramatic trekking. The Colca Canyon and Lake Titicaca are highlights of any vacation to Peru. Ecuador’s paramo and Chimborazo offer excellent trekking opportunities. Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego also has great trekking and stunning glaciers. South America is a continent full of some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
