I’m straying away from the travel tips theme a little, but hey, these quotes are funny.
I’ve been trawling through some of George W Bush’s most absurd quotes - there are so many of them it’s quite unbelievable. What’s also politically interesting is that quite so few of them are about Latin America. The moron of a president really has ignored the US’s backyard during his presidency. Anyway, here’s the pick of George Bush’s most ridiculous statements about Latin American countries:
“Wow! Brazil is big!” - Bush shows his geographical ignorance after being shown a map of Brazil by President Lula da Silva (6 Nov 2005).
“Border relations between Canada and Mexico have never been better.” - a confused / plain stupid Bush during a press conference with Canadian PM Chretien (24 Sept 2001).
“Do you have blacks, too?” - Bush, showing is immense ignorance, to Brazilian President Cardoso (8 Nov 2001).
“Neither in French, nor in English, nor in Mexican.” - linguist Bush declines to take journalists questions during a photo shoot with Canadian PM Chretien (21 April 2001).
“I was a prisoner too, but for bad reasons.” - Bush to Argentinian president Kirchner, after being told that almost all the Argentinian delegates to a summit in Mexico had been imprisoned at some stage during past military dictatorships (13 January 2004) [I’m unsure what the lunatic is rabbiting on about here - where was he a prisoner?].
“I’ve coined new words, like misunderstanding and Hispanically.” - Bush both acknowledges and adds to his perceived stupidity at a TV correspondents dinner in Washington (29 March 2001).
“What I’m suggesting to you is, if you can’t name the foreign minister of Mexico, therefore, you know, you’re not capable of what you do. But the truth of the matter is you are, whether you can or not.” - Bush as quoted by the Seatlle Post Intelligencer (6 Nov 1999).
Oh dear …. Never has such a buffoon had so much power. I just really hope that the yankees don’t vote such an imbecile into power again.
